Our Story
Our laser training programme is led by
Dr Anita Prasad and Ms Safa Elhassan—two senior ophthalmologists with deep expertise in ocular laser and a strong track record in clinical education. Together, they have designed three targeted courses to build practical, independent competence in laser techniques across clinical roles.
Dr Anita Prasad, Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Royal Gwent Hospital and Laser Lead at ABUHB, brings over 25 years of experience in ocular laser. She has trained more than 100 doctors to an independent level in YAG and retinal laser. She is the author of Laser Techniques in Ophthalmology: A Guide to YAG and Photothermal Laser Treatments in Clinic.
Ms Safa Elhassan, Consultant Ophthalmologist at Singleton Hospital (SBUHB), specialises in urgent eye care and cataract surgery. With 10 years of laser experience, she has independently trained non-medical practitioners in YAG laser and actively supports their development across both primary and secondary care.
Our courses combine hands-on training with real-world clinical relevance, equipping both medical and non-medical professionals with the confidence and competence to deliver safe and effective laser treatments.
